Egham Gateway West
Designed by architects Allford Hall Monaghan Morris (AHMM), Egham Gateway West is a mixed use development in Runnymede, Surrey connecting the town centre and Egham Railway Station. Taylor Maxwell worked with the architects and contractors, John Graham Construction and Swift Brickwork Contractors Ltd to supply facing bricks and pre-cast brick soffits to the development, whilst Vobster Architectural manufactured and supplied wet cast window surrounds and other pre-cast components.
Part of a multi-million-pound investment by client Runnymede Borough Council into the local area, it was important that the historical heritage of the district was considered and respected in the design. The new buildings seamlessly merge with the existing high street and show how careful design can transform and enhance an area.
Sourced from UK manufacturers, the variety of facing bricks selected were chosen in a range of tones from light to dark, which offered freedom when designing patterns on the buildings facades to create architectural interest. Wet cast stone from Vobster Architectural was used to create an accent against the surrounding bricks.
Since project completion, the development has been nominated for a number of prestigious awards, including a RIBA 2024 Regional Award and Brick Development Association (BDA) Brick Award in the ‘Urban Regeneration’ and ‘Specialist Brickwork Contractor’ categories.
