Woodmore Mews, London
Designed by Peter Barber Architects, Woodmore Mews is a development of 37 affordable homes that have been completed using facing bricks and various prefabricated brickwork elements.
Comprised of 29 houses, 7 flats and 1 maisonette in terraced form, which alternate between 2 and 3 storey buildings, the Woodmore Mews project has provided a visually cohesive and ‘village’ style development. The residential scheme forms part of the Royal Borough of Greenwich's commitment to providing high-quality and sustainable housing to the community. Alfiam Building Supplies were proud to be the chosen suppliers of the Belgravia Gault Blend brick to the site, a perfect choice due to its affordable cost, yet sustainable and high-quality credentials. The brick also provided the creamy, earth-toned finish the architects wanted to ensure the homes were sympathetic to their surroundings.
Back in 2014, the Alfiam team worked closely with manufacturer Forterra at the early stages of their new Eco factory to specifically craft the chosen brick. This means the brick has a lower energy use during manufacturing, as well as lower waste production and water consumption when compared with other brick products.
Since completion, the project has gone on to win Architect's Choice at the 2022 Brick Development Association (BDA) awards. The development was commended by the judges for being a “masterclass of working the humble brick- with such finesse and artistry!”
